MODERN SLAVERY The concept of modern slavery covers a set of specific legal concepts, including forced labor, debt bondage, forced marriage, slavery and slavery-like practices, and human trafficking. Although modern slavery is not defined in law, it is used as an umbrella term that focuses attention on commonalities across these legal concepts. Modern slavery typically refers to situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception and/or abuse of power. CONFLICT-FREE GOLD STANDARD The Conflict-Free Gold Standard is designed to be implemented by World Gold Council member companies and other entities involved in the extraction of gold. It was developed to establish a common approach by which gold producers can assess and provide assurance that their gold has been extracted in a manner that does not cause, support or benefit unlawful armed conflict or contribute to serious human rights abuses or breaches of international humanitarian law. CHILDREN’S RIGHTS IN THE WORKPLACE INDEX The Children’s Rights in the Workplace Index, developed by UNICEF, is a benchmarking tool to evaluate and guide businesses on their responsibility toward children's rights in their operations and supply chains. The index defines three levels of recommended due diligence for each country based on the level of risk related to children's rights.
